Primeval Remains

Despite being axed following the cliffhanger of its third series, Primeval will return next year.

The time travelling series – which features an array of fantastic creatures from throughout earth history – was put out to pasture with ITV citing financial reasons, but thanks to BBC Worldwide and Impossible Pictures Limited, the series will return in 2011, picking up from the cliffhanger that saw Conor and Abi sheltering in a tree in Cretaceous North America and new team leader Danny Quinn trapped in Pliocene Africa after defeating the plans of the insane Helen Cutter.

One key reason for the series’ return was international sales – Primeval is popular in Germany and is one of BBC America’s top shows.

Richard de Croce, SVP Programming at BBC America: “Primeval is one of BBC America’s all time top ten shows and we’re thrilled to be co-producing two new series.”

It’s great news to hear that this inventive and exciting series is returning – other than Doctor Who, Primeval is the only example of family science fiction adventure on British TV. Axing Primeval was a travesty, and its return for two series (13 episodes) will be very welcome.
