Survivors Returns

BBC TV's Survivors

Based on the novel by Daleks creator Terry Nation, Survivors returned for a second series in January following the success of its first run in late 2008.

With a double-whammy cliffhanger – Greg shot and Abby kidnapped by a pharmaceutical research team – the series has been edging ever closer to revealing just what caused the plague that wiped out the majority of the population. While there has never been any indication of how far the virus has spread, only Abby so far has been infected and recovered. Everyone else has apparently been immune.

The first half of series two has expanded on some of the themes of the first run – conspiracy theory, social decay, tribal society, self sufficiency – as well as introducing some new ones, such as the effects of violence.

Survivors airs on Tuesday evenings at 9pm on BBC One.
