Cast-Out!

BBC cancel Outcasts

It had to happen – and there was a good chance that it would as soon as the BBC moved the show to Sunday evenings – but Outcasts has been cancelled.

The science fiction series featured a rag-tag collection of post-apocalyptic humans surving on an alien planet. While it is fair to say that the show got off to a slow start, the show – which featured Liam Cunningham, Hermione Norris (Spooks) and Daniel Mays (Ashes to Ashes) – was worth a weekly watch and developed well over the course of the series. A second series would perhaps have been a launch pad for a new direction to iron out some of the inconsistencies, but now we will never know…

However that is now three Monday evening genre titles that BBC One has left to rot before the  end of their natural lifespan, as Outcasts joins Survivors and Bonekickers in either failing to realise their potential or being disregarded at the wrong point.

It seems that if you’re not an instant hit these days, you’re cast out – and who says the BBC isn’t ratings-focussed?
