Joe Ahearne Adapts The Secret Of Crickley Hall

The Secret of Crickley Hall by James HerbertBritish horror writer James Herbert is to have his 2006 novel “The Secret Of Crickley Hall” adapted for television by the superb Joe Ahearne, whose previous cultist work includes Channel 4 vampire drama Ultraviolet and the BBC exorcist serial Apparitions (not to mention a few Doctor Who episodes back in 2005).

The TV adaptation was announced this week at the Broadcasting Press Guild lunch by BBC Drama chief Ben Stephenson. Details are sketchy at present – no cast members have been announced, for instance – but the horror story will be scheduled for broadcast in three 60-minute episodes around Halloween 2012.

The ghostly tale is about a place called Crickley Hall in the satanic-sounding settlement of Devil’s Cleave, where a World War II flood washed away orphaned evacuees who had been living under the sadistic eye of one Augustus Cribben.

It’s a respected Herbert novel and the adaptation is great news. We’ll have more on this as details become available!
