Horror Restoration: Classic Hammer Horror Gets Makeover
Since 1934 Hammer films has been one of the biggest names when you think of great horror films, and now, over thirty of these classics will be getting restored for a release on Blu-Ray.
Besides being cleaned up for the move to the higher quality video medium, the films will also be brought back to their original intended states such as the reinsertion of the UK title sequence on the 1966 zombie classic The Plague of Zombies and Dracula: Prince of Darkness, from the same year.
The restorations are being done with the help of such industry heavies as Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures, as well as the general public who has been asked to return any original material from these films they may have.
This includes reinserting missing and extended scenes, such as a death sequence from Terence Fisher’s Dracula, which was too much for 1958 audiences.
Also available on the discs will be many extras, including interviews with many of the surviving cast and crews from these films.
Hammer films that are scheduled to get the restoration treatment include Frankenstein Created Woman, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, Dracula (1958), The Mummy, The Reptile Slave Girls, The Lost Continent, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, The Plague of Zombies and The Vengeance of She.
