RTD’s Aliens Vs. Wizards Details

From the dark side of the moon, aliens scan the Earth prowling our planet for Magic. They’ll stop at nothing to get it. Even if it means destroying our home world. All that stands between us and obliteration are two 16 year-old school boys Tom and Benny; Its Ray Guns Vs. Wands, Science Vs Magic, its…Aliens Vs. Wizards!

Russell T. Davies is returning to children’s drama with this brand new action adventure drama for CBBC and, according to the Aliens Vs. Wizards blog page, he’ll be bring with him some of the very talented folk that brought us the equally as magical Sarah Jane Adventures, writer/co-creator Phil Ford, writer’s Gareth Roberts,  Joseph Lidster, and former Doctor Who Magazine editor Clayton Hickman.

Russell T. Davies said:

“Writing for children is the biggest challenge of all and I think CBBC stands right at the heart of broadcasting. So I’m delighted to launch this show, a true nationwide collaboration – a Salford commission from a BBC Wales team. We’re joining genres too – the show’s a wild, funny, thrilling and sometimes scary collision of magic and science fiction.“

We follow Tom Clarke -  a teenager living a seemingly normal life with his Dad and his Grandmother. However Tom hold a dark secret -  he and his family are Wizards and when the Nekross arrive, hunger for magic, Tom and his family find themselves on the menu.

But these Merlin munchers hadn’t bet on Tom’s other secret weapon – brainy box science geek Benny – who’s science know how more than backs up Tom’s magical powers.

Forming an extraordinary duo – Tom and Benny set out to battle the Nekross and save the Earth.

Characteristically, Russell T, Davies is more than a little excited:

“Wizards have never met aliens before, and when they do, the result is spectacular! The mysterious Nekross know exactly what to do with magicians. Eat them! Let battle be joined!”

Aliens Vs. Wizards will follow the same 12×30 minute series pattern as The Sarah Jane Adventures and is produced by BBC Cymru Wales  in association with FremantleMedia Enterprises for CBBC for broadcast in Autumn 2012.
