The new Guy Hibbert BBC Two One Child drama shooting in the UK and Hong Kong has just had two key casting announcements.
Adopted by Anglo-American parents, a young Chinese-born woman (Mei) struggles with who she really is and where her loyalties lies when she is asked to return to her birthplace, Guangzhou. The drama questions just how far Mei will go to help the mother and brother she never knew. It dares to take a new look at what it means to be family.
As we mentioned before, Katie Leung (Harry Potter, Run) plays Mai, whilst Mardy Ma plays her birth mother Liu Ying and Sebastion So is her brother Ajun.
However, the two actors announced to play her adoptive American mother and British father are confirmed as Elizabeth Perkins (The Flintstones, Weeds, Big, Miracle on 34th Street) and Donald Sumpter (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Being Human, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).
The two-part drama by BAFTA award-winning Hibbert, who was responsible for Blood And Oil and Five Minutes Of Heaven, is directed by John Alexander. Alexander previously helmed The 7.39, Exile and A Small Island. Exec Produced by Hilary Salmon. Produced by Grainne Marmion (What Remains, A Small Island), it is co-produced by BBC In-House Drama England Production and Sundance TV.
