Stephen Mangan in the short-lived Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
What on earth is going on at the BBC?
Not only has the Bafta-winning series The Fades been refused a second series, BBC Four will not be delivering fans any further adventures for Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.
In an age where commercial television continues to dumb-down with barely-taxing plots and endless reality shows one would expect the BBC to counter this by fulfilling its remit as a public service broadcaster to present shows that are interesting and appeal to smaller audiences.
Instead, as shared by star Stephen Mangan:
One really has to wonder how on earth these commissioning types and channel controllers ever find their way into a job making such pointless, short-sighted and utterly disappointing decisions based on… well, what exactly? It can’t be ratings, because the BBC isn’t ratings driven (and BBC Four certainly isn’t).
Our only hope is that the series might be switching to BBC Two, but as there has been no word on this so far, hope continues to spring eternal.
