Lewis Back From The Dead – We’re Surprised Too!

Last year, the final series of highly acclaimed Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis saw the two main characters leaving the force for good. But it seems rumours of Lewis and Hathaway’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. It’s been announced that they will now return for an eighth run of six new hour long cases, albeit with a twist…

The climax to series seven saw Lewis retire, whilst a guilt-ridden DS Hathaway felt forced to quit after one of his suspects took their own life. But in the new series, Hathaway is re-drafted as a newly promoted Inspector and unable to find a suitable partner, Lewis is then pulled out of retirement to join him.

Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox reprise their roles as Lewis and Hathaway. They star alongside Rebecca Front, who returns as Chief Superintendant Jean Innocent and Clare Holman who is back as forensic pathologist Laura Hobson. Morse author and creator Colin Dexter will continue as Production Consultant on the drama.

Executive Producer Michele Buck said: “We’re delighted ITV have commissioned series eight of Lewis. Since we started producing the series in 2006, Lewis has achieved a reputation for thought-provoking stories and we’re determined to continue to set high standards.”

ITV’s director of drama Steve November added: “Viewers have a great deal of respect for Inspector Lewis and a huge loyalty to Kevin Whately. Together with Laurence, he has forged a formidable partnership and we’re delighted to have them back on ITV.”
